Computer does not have RS232 Serial Port

Older versions of CALPlex use RS232 Serial Communication.  The RS232 Communication Cable is a 9-pin cable that connects to a 9-pin serial port on your computer.  However, newer computers no longer come with Serial connection ports and instead utilize USB ports.

There are "serial to usb adapters" available that allow for the connection of hardware devices that use Serial communication to be connected to a computer with USB ports.  However, TechniCAL has found that these adapters do not always work well with Windows operating systems and cause communication errors when CALSoft cannot detect the CALPlex datalogger.   These adapters are made by third-party vendors and are not supplied by TechniCAL.  Therefore, TechniCAL does not support the use of Serial-to-USB adapters with CALPlex/CALSoft.

To solve this problem, we have switched our CALPlex datalogger to true USB connectivity (the serial connection has been eliminated).  New CALPlex units are shipped with this USB ability along with a USB Cable.  The communication AND the power for CALPlex is supplied by the USB connection to the computer.
