TechniCAL, LLC is an internationally recognized Process Authority in the retorted canned foods industry. Our clients are commercial processors of low acid and acidified foods. We provide Process Authority services directly to our clients to validate retorts with temperature distribution testing, establish thermal processes based on heat penetration data, and evaluate process deviations for commercial sterility. We also provide Process Authority services to validate other “non-retorted” products/processes, such as ovens used to process pet food, smokers used to cook/smoke meat, and pre-cookers used in the tuna industry. Our main office is in New Orleans, Louisiana, and we have employees working in areas around the US.
We are currently looking to add a Thermal Processing Specialist to our team.
Location & Structure:
- This is a full time, entry-to-mid level position.
- The position will answer directly to TechniCAL’s General Manager and/or President.
- Relocation to our main office in New Orleans, Louisiana is desired. However, the person filling this position may work remotely out of a “home office” in the U.S. if agreed upon.
- Frequent travel to client locations is part of the job- mainly travel within the US, but also international travel may be required.
The job responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct Temperature Distribution testing on a wide range of retort types
- Conduct Heat Penetration testing on a wide range of product/container types
- Evaluate Temperature Distribution data and issue reports
- Evaluate Heat Penetration data and establish thermal process schedules/reports
- Evaluate situations and documentation related to Process Deviations sent in by our clients
- Frequent Travel to client’s production facilities is required.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Experience and understanding of conducting Heat Penetration and Temperature Distribution testing
- Experience with using CALSoft software
- Experience with using Microsoft Office software
- Willing to handle frequent travel and sometimes work long hours in-plant when necessary
- Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time.
- Exhibit mechanical know-how
- Exhibit a good work ethic
- Exhibit a professional personality to represent our company with our clients
- Must be a problem solver and must be flexible if plans change during a project
- Must be able to work on your own without much supervision
- Must have willingness to learn and follow our internal protocols and systems
Required education/work experience:
- 1-3 years minimum experience working in or around the retorted canned foods industry
- Experience conducting Heat Penetration and Temperature Distribution testing on retorted canned foods
- Degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related curriculum. Previous job experience in the industry may substitute for degree.
- Must be a citizen of the United States
