Thermocouple Receptacles
Receptacles are stainless steel fittings made specifically for Ecklund Needle Thermocouples. Receptacles are installed into a hole in a container of product and allow a Thermocouple to be installed into it. Receptacles can be either Locking (#C9) or Non-Locking (#C5), depending on the type of retort the containers will be tested in. Non-locking receptacles are recommended for still or non-agitating retorts; locking receptacles are recommended for rotational or agitating retorts. When purchased, a receptacle includes a body, a Receptacle Gasket, and a nut. Both the locking and non-locking receptacles can be purchased in Delrin instead of stainless steel (#C5D and #C9D).
Locking vs. Non-Locking
Locking receptacles have an additional external thread for a Locking Thermocouple Connector on a Heat Penetration Wire to connect to the receptacle. Locking receptacles are recommended when running heat penetration tests in rotational or agitating retorts to prevent accidental disconnection during testing.
Non-Locking receptacles are made to simply connect a Non-Locking Connector from a Heat Penetration Wire to a thermocouple. Non-Locking receptacles are recommended when running heat penetration tests in still or non-agitating retorts.
